National Aging In Place Week Now is the time to start planning activities for National Aging In Place Week 2006, which has been designated October 8-14. Last year, in partnership with the National Aging In Place Council, NRMLA successfully coordinate senior fairs educational workshops and media events in 30 locations across the country to highlight home and community-based services and home modification strategies; that enable seniors to live in their homes longer.

Sept 28: Dalton Law Firm gives talk on reverse mortgages. The Dalton Law Firm, a Raleigh based Elder Law firm focused on issues faced by senior citizens and their families, is conducting a Reverse Mortgage; Coffee Talk&; to help Seniors make informed decisions on how to pay for healthcare. Coffee Talks is a new series of casual seminars conducted by Elder Law Attorney, Mary Ann Dalton. The Coffee Talks focus on a variety of issues facing senior citizens and provides helpful insights into preparing for the future. The first in the series, Reverse Mortgages, How to Pay For Healthcare When All You Have Is Your House, is slated for Thursday September 28 with sessions from both 10 to 11am and 2 to 3pm. The Coffee Talk will be held at Caribou Coffee, Olde Raleigh, 3101 Charles B. Root Wynd in Raleigh.

DEAR RMNC: I am a 74-year-old widow. About six years ago, I added my daughter's name to my home's title in joint tenancy with right of survivorship so she wouldn't have to worry about probate costs when I pass on. I'm doing pretty well, health wise, but am running low on income since my airline pension income was cut about two years ago. However, I am told I can't qualify for a senior-citizen reverse mortgage because my daughter is on the title. Is this true? I asked her to quitclaim her interest back to me but she is reluctant --Martha Y.

You need to be the owner in order ot get a reverse mortgage, only your name can be onthe deed.

yes it is. the reverse mortgage will pay off your old mortgage and and have money for repairs. Your forward mortgages payments will stop, this give you the extra income you need if the future, to keep the home repaired.
